Takayama site
Organization
River Basin Research Center, Gifu University
Research Theme
Material cycle of the ecosystem in the cool-temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest and the sugi plantation forest.
-
- Mechanisms of the material cycle in the forest ecosystem (carbon, nitrogen, water, energy).
- Effect of the global change on the environment to the structure and the function of the forest ecosystem.
- Roles of the forest ecosystem to control the regional environment.
Site Outline
The Takayama site is located on the south-western slope of Mt. Norikura (36.08 N, 137.25 E). The site includes two flux sites and some small plots for ecological research.
(1) Deciduous broadleaf forest site: This site has two flux towers and a canopy access tower for tree census. Ecological measurements are conducted for 1-ha permanent plot. The forest canopy is dominated by Betula ermanii, B. platyphylla and Quercus crispla, and the understory is dominated by dwarf bamboo Sasa senanensis.
(2) Evergreen coniferous site: The site has one flux tower, at the central part of the 50 x 20 m plot for ecological measurements. The forest canopy is domianted by Cryptomeria japonica.
